"It's time to think creatively and optimistically about our future. Islam Imagined is a vision for the bright road ahead, a spark for our imagination, a fresh inspiration.

Join me on this journey of discovery."

Peter Gould, Designer & Dreamer

Creativity, design, innovative technology & entrepreneurship are tools our global community desperately needs to embrace. Islam Imagined is a movement encouraging people around the world to contribute their ideas to help solve global problems and dream big about the future.

Throughout 2016 we will be inviting contributors to imagine and share their concepts in a series of though-provoking challenges including:

  • Islamic Fashion, Smart Clothing & Wearables: How might Muslims dress?  What is the potential of smart fabrics and connected clothing?  What could a ‘smart hijab’ or ’smart abaya' do? How can emerging fabric technology support modest dress?

  • Education, Learning & Interaction:  How will we benefit from and experience Islamic knowledge in the future? Can we use Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality to engage traditional sources such as the Quran or Hadith Collections? What do madrassahs of the future look like?

  • Smart, Connected Environments: What could the Smart Masajid & Smart Homes of the future do?  How can we use sensors, intelligent devices and digital data to improve our living and working environments?
  • Connected Communities:  How we can increase understanding, harmony and peace in the world? Can technology help us become more empathic and compassionate towards refugees and people in hardship?  How do we create strong bonds and friendships across cultures, religions and nations?

  • Space & Beyond Earth:  What will Space Masjids look like? How can we explore new worlds and galaxies? What will private commercial spaceflight mean for future Muslim communities?
  • Products of the Future: Open category for 'Blue Sky’ concepts and thinking for imaginary products made possible with 3D printing and emerging technologies:  across all categories including transport, automation, robotics, digital devices, healthcare

Islam Imagined is a fantastic opportunity for students, emerging designers, school and community groups around the world to encourage the growth of creative thinking. We need our thinkers and dreamers to creatively explore the intersection of emerging technology with everyday needs to shape a positive future.

The concepts selected by Peter will have the opportunity to be featured in the Islam Imagined app, online gallery, electronic or printed coffee-table book, Peter’s Facebook page and across the Gould.Community websites including Creative Ummah.  The pop-up experience, app, and online gallery are expected to progress throughout 2016.

Islam Imagined is kindly sponsored by Qeerad, a seed stage investment firm that helps startups bring great ideas to market. Their mission is to empower entrepreneurs to make proactive change in solving problems throughout the world with a sustainable business model.
